Why Are Leading Organizations Raving About PATTERNS as a Sexual Harassment Training Solution?
Find out why leading American organizations in increasing numbers are finding 'PATTERNS' to be the answer to their sexual harassment prevention needs. Sexual harassment at work is more than a legal issue. It is fundamentally a behavioral problem. PATTERNS takes on the behavioral challenge, arming employees and managers with the information they need to prevent sexual harassment and the tools that will help them to respond when incidents occur.
Through a series of short dramatizations this series describes common patterns of illegal or inappropriate behavior at work and how best to respond. We explore the habitual harasser, the smitten harasser, the bully and the jilted harasser. We also examine problematic management responses to harassment incidents, including the ostrich, the chameleon, the wounded tiger and the mother hen. Lawyers and HR professionals review each situation and present positive alternatives.
Each program in the series can stand alone and may be licensed separately. There are volume discounts if you license the entire series or multiple copies of any program. Each program includes a comprehensive facilitation guide and reproducible handouts as well as optional PowerPoint slides at no additional cost.
Series Objectives: The acclaimed 3-program series, PATTERNS, is intended to explore the behavioral, practical side of sexual harassment, arming employees and managers with the tools they need to effectively prevent incidents in the first place, and to respond appropriately when they either feel harassed or are aware of harassment occurring.

Powerful Dramatizations Make Sexual Harassment PATTERNS Real and Clear
Program 1, Preventing Sexual Harassment (For All Employees):
Preventing Sexual Harassment looks at four common patterns of inappropriate behavior – the habitual harasser, the smitten harasser, the bully and the jilted harasser. How we respond to harassment will be most effective when we recognize why the behavior is occurring. This program arms employees with information and insights to help them determine the best way to get the behavior to stop. A series of dramatizations bring each pattern to life. Attorneys, human resource professionals and a troupe of exceptional actors take us through the legal, psychological, cultural and moral issues.
Program 2, Responding to Sexual Harassment (For Organizational Leaders):
Program 2 is an extension of the first program in both style and content, and we recommend that managers view both parts of the series. Program 2 examines the legal liability issues and questions of personal responsibility that managers and supervisors must face. Using dramatizations, we explore different patterns of how managers often respond to sexual harassment incidents, including the ostrich, the chameleon, the wounded tiger and the mother hen and present more effective alternatives. Finally we discuss how incidents should be investigated and best resolved.
Program 3, Rights & Responsibilities (For New Employee Orientation):
Program 3 is a brief introduction to the issue of sexual harassment prevention intended for new employees. This orientation program describes what sexual harassment is, how it is damaging to the person being harassed, the harasser, the workgroup and the organization, and what an employees rights and responsibilities are in this area.

Subtle Sexual Harassment
How do we take our discussion of sexual harassment beyond the obvious cases that everyone already recognizes as wrong and explore the more subtle issues that must be addressed if men and women are to be able to work together in an environment of respect?
Subtle Sexual Harassment Explores:
- the abuse of power in the workplace
- personal relationships and dating between employees
- peer pressure to conform to a work group's sexual values
- the challenges facing women or men in non-traditional work environments
- organizational liability in sex harassment cases
- rumors as harassment
- and much more.
Series Objectives
Subtle Sexual Harassment is intended to take the titillation out of sex harassment training and allow employees to go beyond the obvious cases most of us already recognize as wrong. In so doing, we open our eyes and minds to the more subtle aspects and impacts of our own behavior.
Program Contents
- Program 1, The Issue is Respect, tackles complex issues. What one employee may consider sexual harassment, another may find perfectly acceptable. Both men and women can be and are victims of hostile work environments and subtle Quid Pro Quo behavior. The standards by which such behavior is measured are changing. Attorneys, psychologists, human resource professionals and a troupe of exceptional actors take us through the legal, psychological, cultural and moral issues.
- Program 2, Management's New Responsibilities, is an extension of the first program in both style and content. We examine the legal liability issues and questions of personal responsibility that managers and supervisors must face. We also explore how we can create a workplace free of sexual harassment, the elements of a good sexual harassment policy and how to handle complaints once they are received.
Flexible Training
The training package is versatile and comprehensive. It offers 3 training options:
- A stand alone presentation of the videos
- Video showing followed by discussion
- A complete interactive course including exercises and discussion questions

You Can STOP Harassment - WINNER of the Cindy Award
The individual and organizational costs of workplace harassment are enormous. While sexual harassment has commanded much of the media’s attention, inappropriate and illegal behavior at work goes far beyond gender issues. In most workplaces it's all too common to find employees who have been personally touched by the intimidation and discomfort of workplace harassment - as observers, targets or as one of those accused of harassing others.
Despite the dark picture harassment can create, there is good news for organizations and employees. If we work together, we can stop harassment. To accomplish this will take a united effort by all those affected by harassment at work. This includes the offenders, those they offend, observers of the behavior, and organizational leaders.
What distinguishes You Can STOP Harassment is its positive message. The programs in this series are not about pointing fingers and assigning blame. We all share responsibility for stopping workplace harassment. It isn’t easy work. The reasons for harassment are many and the roots run deep. Working together, however, we can make great progress toward creating workplaces where people feel safe, valued and free to do their best work.
Program Objectives: You Can STOP Harassment is intended to encourage employees, supervisors, team leaders and managers in public and private sector organizations to take responsibility to help end all forms of harassment in their workplaces.
After viewing Program 1, Taking Responsibility, and working through the printed support materials, participants should understand: ... what illegal harassment is and its impact at work / the need to support our co-workers in facing up to harassment / how to confront harassment to make it stop / how to defuse disrespectful or harassing situations / that not all harassment is intentional / that it's the impact of our behavior that counts, not our intentions / the importance of setting appropriate boundaries
In addition to the objectives above, after viewing Program 2, The Responsible Leader, and working through the printed support materials, participants should understand...
The importance of modeling appropriate behavior / the liabilities managers and organizations face / how to handle a harassment complaint / the danger of retaliation .
We recommend supervisors and managers view both programs in the series.
Program Contents: You Can STOP Harassment is comprised of short dramatizations that explore harassment issues that are common within organizations. Each scenario is analyzed by a diverse group of legal, human resources and communications experts. These practitioners discuss the significance of the dramatization and suggest guidelines when encountering a similar situation. Several scenarios are "rewound" and played again, modeling appropriate, respectful communication.
Program 1 Scenarios (26 minutes): 1st Scenario: Sexual & gender harassment ; 2nd Scenario: Racial harassment ; 3rd Scenario: Sexual orientation harassment; 4th Scenario: Religious harassment & retaliation
Program 2 Scenarios (25 minutes): 1st Scenario: Racial & sexual harassment; 2nd Scenario: Ethnic & religious harassment; 3rd Scenario: Same sex harassment
You Can Stop Harassment-Training Scenes Video: This video includes all the scenarios in program 1 and Program 2
Support Materials: You Can STOP Harassment comes with a comprehensive Facilitator's Guide which includes handouts. When you license the program, you are granted permission to make as many copies of these printed handouts as you need for your organization.
Special discount of $100 per video purchase applies to this product for the month of December 2011. Please place the order at the regular price and we'll apply the additional discount of $100 per video as we settle the order and will send an adjusted invoice showing the actual price paid.
